Contractor Range Single Gates

  • All timber used in the construction of your Contractor Range gates has been high pressure treated green using Tanlith E, tested in accordance with the requirement of BS EN 599-1 & treated in accordance with the penetration and retention requirements given in BC 8417. User classes are defined in BS EN 335-1. As a minimum standard timber used will confirm with UC2 & UC3.
  • Please note ‘sawn’ timber will not have a prepared smooth surface unlike prepared timber such as TGV (tongue & groove with a V joint) boarding or PSE (prepared square edge) timber. Sawn finished timber has a rough sawn finish. If you require your HAYMAC timber product to have a smooth finish please choose one of our Premium Range products which can be manufactured with a prepared finish, if in any doubt please contact us for more information. Timber products which are quoted for using timber sizes as stated ‘ex.’ means the nominal timber size which the timber started at before planing to actual finished working size. On average ‘ex.’ sizes for timbers are 5mm smaller than the nominal starting timber size for example ex. 100mm will finish to circa 95mm and ex. 50mm will finish to circa 45mm.
  • For 6ft high gates, the posts are concreted into the ground to a minimum depth of 600mm or ¼ of the length of the post used for shorter or taller gates.
  • Timber gate posts – unless stated – will be sawn & treated 100mm x 100mm in cross section with a 4-way weathered top and a post saver sleeve fitted to aid longevity. You have the choice not to have a post saver sleeve fitted to your gate post and you can choose the style of post top you wish to have but please let us know prior to installation or your new gate will be installed using our default standard.
  • Our Contractor Range closeboarded clad gates (using sawn 2ex. 22mm x 100mm feather edge boards)  are fully Tanalised. 
  • The height of your gate Contractor Range will be the overall maximum height which for flat top gates will be the overall height of the gate, for bow top gates this will be the maximum height to the top of the bow with the shoulder of the gate being approximately 150mm lower.
  • Gates quoted as 6ft high will be 1.78m high at the highest point allowing for a 50mm gap beneath the gate, the 50mm gap raises the gate to 1.83m high (6ft).
  • Standard Contractor Range single pedestrian gates are 900mm wide. The available opening width after installation, allowing for gate stops will be approximately 875mm.
  • Contractor Range gates are ledged and braced using ex. 38mm x 100mm PSE redwood for both the ledges & braces with the closeboarding fixed directly to the framework. PLEASE NOTE: THIS STYLE OF GATE DOES NOT HAVE ANY SIDE STYLES & IS NOT A FULLY FRAMED GATE.
  • Contractor Range gate ironmongery for single gates is 2 x galvanised 450mm Tee hinges, 1 x galvanised 125mm ring latch and 1 x galvanised 150mm Brenton sliding pad bolt - padlock not supplied.
  • If you have been quoted for a long throw key lock, the standard key lock is operated with a key from both sides of the gate, the lock comes with 5 keys alike.
  • Contractor Range gates are hung from and closed to a minimum 100mm x 100mm gate post with post saver sleeve fitted or where the gate is hung from or closed to a building a 45mm x 95mm Tanalised timber wall plate will be mechanically fixed direct to the building and used to replace the gate post.
  • Please note that as standard, all gates will open inwards (away from you) when viewed from the front. Single gates will be supplied and installed left hand hanging unless specifically quoted otherwise.
  • Your gate will be installed with approximately 8mm gate shut gap widths between the gate and the hanging and closing gate post or wall plate to allow the gate to swell and move during periods of high ambient moisture.

Premium Range Gates

For Premium Range Spindle flat top and bow top gates the maximum height will be at the gate style tops with the gate head being approx. 65mm lower.

  • Gate styles are ex. 50mm x 100mm PSE redwood, ledges and braces are ex. 38mm x 100mm PSE redwood. The construction method used in the manufacture of our Premium Range gates in our workshops is the traditional full frame, ledged and braced frame work with morticed and tenoned, glued & star doweled joints - making for a very strong construction.
  • Premium Range gate ironmongery for single gates is 3 x galvanised 450mm Tee hinges, 1 x galvanised 125mm ring latch and 2 x galvanised 150mm Brenton sliding pad bolt - padlocks not supplied.
  • For Premium Range paired gates, the standard gate ironmongery is 3 x galvanised 450mm Tee hinges per gate, 1 x galvanised 125mm ring latch and 1 x galvanised 150mm Brenton sliding pad bolts - padlocks not supplied - with 1 x galvanised 300mm drop bolt to secure the fixed gate leaf.

Premium Range Gate Hanging Options

Premium Range Closeboard Gate

 

 

 

 

  • Standard 6ft high closeboard gates are 1.78m high and installed with a 50mm gap to the bottom of the gate giving an overall height of 1.83m (6ft).
  • Standard pedestrian gates are 900mm wide.
  • This style of gate is clad with sawn feather edge boards.
  • Closeboarded gates are best suited to the hinges being fitted to the back of the gate so the gate opens inwards (away from you) as the feather edge boards do not offer a flat surface for the Tee hinges to be fitted to. 

Premium Range TGV Gate

 

 

 

  • Standard 6ft high TGV gates are 1.78m high and installed with a 50mm gap to the bottom of the gate giving an overall height of 1.83m (6ft).
  • Standard pedestrian gates are 900mm wide. Max. available opening width after installation is the same as for our closeboarded gates being 875mm.
  • This style of gate is clad with prepared smooth boards.
  • TGV clad gates can have the hinges fitted on either the back or front of the gate so can open inwards and outwards without any issues.

Premium Range Bow Top Gate

 

 

 

 

 

  • Standard 6ft high bow top gates are 1.78m high and installed with a 50mm gap to the bottom of the gate, giving an overall height of 1.83m (6ft) at the top of the bow and approx. 1.63m at the shoulder.
  • The bow top on the gate is approx. 150mm and the gate is capped off with a flat smooth prepared cap.
  • Standard pedestrian gates are 900mm wide.
  • This style of gate can be clad with either sawn feather edge boards or prepared smooth TGV boards as shown in the picture.

Premium Range Paired Gates

Our Premium Range Paired gates are available in flat top and bow top either clad with sawn feather edge boards (closeboarded) or prepared smooth TGV boards. The gate dimensions for height will be the same as the single pedestrian gates above for standard 6ft high gates.

Premium Range Gate Iron Mongery

  • Premium Range Gates are hung using 3 x 450mm galvanised Tee hinges with a galvanised ring latch and 2 x galvanised Brenton pad bolts - we do not supply the necessary padlocks .
  • Paired gates are hung using 3 x 450mm galvanised Tee hinges per gate leaf with a galvanised ring latch and 1 x galvanised Brenton pad bolt - we do not supply the necessary padlock - plus an additional 300mm galvanised drop bolt for the fixed leaf gate which replaces the second Brenton pad bolt.

Long Throw Key Lock

  • Long throw key locks are operated from both side of the gate by the supplied keys, each lock comes with 5 keys alike.
