Joinery Quality Range Gates

  • Our Joinery Quality driveway gates are clad using untreated/clean ex. 19mm x 100mm saw falling grade redwood TGV. The framework used in the construction of your gates is Unsorted Scandinavian Redwood. Gate styles are ex. 75mm x 150mm PSE, ledges and braces are ex. 50mm x 150mm, flat top gate heads are ex. 75mm x 150mm PSE with swept top gate heads being ex. 75mm x 225mm PSE. The construction method used in the manufacture of our Joinery Quality range gates in our workshops is the traditional full frame, ledged and braced frame work with morticed and tenoned, glued & hardwood doweled joints - making for a very strong construction.
  • PSE (prepared square edge) timber products which are quoted for using timber sizes as stated ‘ex.’ means the nominal timber size which the timber started at before planning to actual finished working size. On average ‘ex.’ sizes for timbers are 5mm smaller than the nominal starting timber size for example ex. 150mm will finish to circa 145mm.
  • The height of your gates will be the overall maximum height at the gate styles. For flat top gates the maximum height will be at the gate style tops, for bow top gates the maximum height will be the centre gate style tops and for drop top gates it will be at the hanging post gate style tops. The gate heads will be approximately 65mm lower than the maximum gate height. Bow or drop top gate will have a drop/sweep of approximately 100mm.
  • Flat top gates will have the gate head 65mm below the top of the gate style, this means the head of the gate on a 1.8m high (6ft equiv.) pair of gates will be at 1.735m (1735mm).
  • Bow top gates will have the gate head 65mm below the top of the centre gate style and 65mm below the hanging post gate style, this means the gate head on a 1.8m high (6ft equiv.) pair of gates will be at 1.735m (1735mm) at the centre bow of the gates and at 1.7m (1700mm) adjacent to the hanging gate style.
  • For bow top gates, the hanging post gate styles will be 100mm shorter than the centre (bow top) gate styles. So, for a 6ft high pair of bow top gates the centre gate styles will be 1.8m high and the hanging gate styles will be 1.7m high.
  • Joinery Quality gates will be hung with a 50mm gap below the gates.
  • Our standard Joinery Quality range gate ironmongery for single gates is 2 x 600mm galvanised adjustable hinges, 1 x galvanised 125mm ring latch and 2 x galvanised 150mm Brenton sliding pad bolt - padlock not supplied.
  • Our standard Joinery Quality range gate ironmongery for paired gates is 2 x galvanised 600mm adjustable hinges per gate, 1 x galvanised 125mm ring latch, 1 x 300mm galvanised heavy cross pattern slide bolt with 1 x galvanised 300mm drop bolt to secure the fixed gate leaf.
  • If you have been quoted for a long throw key lock, the standard key lock is operated with a key from both sides of the gate, the lock comes with 5 keys alike and will replace the 300mm heavy cross pattern slide bolt.
  • Joinery Quality range gates are hung from and closed to a minimum cross section 150mm x 150mm 4-way weathered Tanalised timber gate post with post saver sleeve fitted or where the gate is hung from or closed to a building a 70mm x 145mm Tanalised treated timber wall plate will be mechanically fixed direct to the building and used to replace the gate post. Your gate post will be concreted into the ground to a minimum depth of 600mm or ¼ of the length of the post used for shorter or taller gates. You have the choice not to have a post saver sleeve fitted to your gate post and you can choose the style of post top you wish to have but please let us know prior to installation or your new gate will be installed using our default standard.
  • Please note that as standard all gates will open inwards (away from you) when viewed from the front. Single gates will be supplied and installed left hand hanging. All
paired gates will have the left-hand leaf opening first unless specifically quoted otherwise.
  • Your Joinery Quality gates are supplied and installed untreated and will require weather proofing and painting after installation to help protect your new gate from the outside environment.
  • Your gate will be installed with approximately 8mm gate shut gaps between the gate and the hanging and closing gate post or wall plate to allow the gate to swell and move during periods of high ambient moisture.
  • We recommend that you stain or paint your gate after installation to help protect your new gate from the outside environment. Please review our information sheet on how to weatherproof, paint and care for your new your gates.
